Compass, Inc., a progressive non-profit agency supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities seeks a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to work with young man of Korean heritage residing in a group home in Silver Spring, MD. This Residential Counselor position is responsible for supporting this individual in being actively engaged in meaningful recreational, vocational and daily living activities. This individual understands and speaks Korean fluently and has some basic understanding of English and utilizes gestures and some basic words to communicate with English speakers. He enjoys being physically active and loves to play tennis, basketball and going to the gym.
Shifts/Positions Available: M-F 7a-3p, M-F 3p-11p, Every other Sa, Su 7a-11p.
Rate of Pay: $10.50/hour
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
• Ability to speak and understand both Korean and English.
• Basic computer skills to use and teach use of iPad/Tablet with various applications.
• Creativity and patience with working with individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to support individuals with behavioral and emotional challenges.
• Highly enthusiastic and energetic/enjoys engaging individuals in physical activities.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to work effectively with family members/
• A keen interest in improving the quality of life for the individuals supported by Compass, Inc.
Qualifications: Prior experience working in human services with persons with disabilities preferred but not necessary. High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred with preferred coursework in developmental psychology, applied behavioral analysis and/or autism. Bilingual communication skills in Korean and English required. Basic computer skills. Must have driver’s license and clean driving record.
